America seems to be enamored with “real” girls, or girls that act more like the rest of the general population – they make mistakes, aren’t always cute, they can be selfish, don’t date for the right reasons, have sex just for the fun, and sometimes aren’t at the mercy of a whim while “on a break” or Don Draper. Oh to fear a woman scorned. Although Madonna claims she always prefers to live in the moment, conscious of the affect her current actions have on her present, she may not have been giving a damn what anyone might be thinking of her when she went back into the studio to pen tracks for her latest album MDNA. The summer movie blockbusters, like my springtime allergies, are coming earlier this year. This is the time of year when you ladies often have to compromise yourselves and sit through the testosterone, blood and guts, and although you’ll probably drag your best gay boyfriend with you to the few and far between romantic comedies hitting the screens, I’m going to help you relate to some of the upcoming early summer releases and especially one that was made for you! This weekend HBO premieres the telefilm Game Change starring Julianne Moore in the transformative role of the most polarizing personality of the last century – Sarah Palin. The film reveals the behind-the-scenes negotiations and politicking of that infamously tenuous campaign as one full of all the back-biting drama you’d expect from a Greek tragedy. I’m not necessarily trying to promote this HBO film about Sarah Palin (which is spectacular, though I am biased) but rather to draw attention to how we pick our leaders, especially in this very heated election year. Well I fear that we yet again as a culture digress. After last weekend’s Academy Awards debacle… What – You didn’t notice the shear audacious display by Jennifer Lopez? Or how about the grand standing by the vampy Angelina Jolie? I swear that if you freeze the frame oh-so carefully, you could see right through to “It Girl” Emma Stone’s free-to-be-me cleavage! Have these ladies no shame? Read More »

The Academy Awards are without a doubt the Super Bowl of the cinema set. Every year everyone excitingly sets themselves up in front of the television, tuning in to one of the gazillion pre-show coverage events that promise to get you the celebrity interview you can’t get anywhere else. But seriously what everyone wants to see is who will take home the tiny, shiny golden master of ceremonies…and I don’t mean Billy Crystal. Read More »

A week after her sudden passing, pop-diva Whitney Houston was laid to rest in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey. A most humbling and final memorial extended only to a few family and friends in the very church that Houston sang the very first notes that would make her the undeniable voice of her generation. The choir gathered in New Hope Baptist Church was comprised of the parish’s current membership. Amidst those serenading the gathered mourners was perhaps someone like Whitney Houston herself. Is it just me or are you as uncomfortable as I am watching the way some men treat their women on reality television? As a culture we’ve become obsessed with the drama and abstract abuse that reality television stars go through in their personal relationships for our entertaining consumption, but when you scratch the surface it’s all much more sad a reality to witness. A couple of weeks ago when I was covering Just Sayin’ for my buddy Michael Mackie, I touted the Hollywood starlets who were stealing my heart. This was after all a year where bridesmaids got chummy with the Prime Minister of England, and women wore the pants on some ass kickin’ action flicks, but it’s only appropriate that I now turn the spotlight on the men most glorious to behold. We can learn a lot from drag queens. Not the least of which, I figure that if the world truly is coming to an end in 2012 as predicted by the Mayan calendar…a little make-up could go a long way to civilizing the final days of civilization! But before this obscure subculture became so pop-culturally consumable, it was only enjoyed in the cabaret clubs of the urban city scene. Now drag is a distinct part of everything pop culture, from the high fashion runways of the world to the highlight of Bachelorette parties across the country. Read More »

Kim Kardashian is taking some serious heat this week! It was recently revealed that extra scenes were shot AFTER the unraveling nuptials to Kris Humphries were filmed. Humphries himself revealed that the whole elaborate proposal was produced at Kim’s behest. Then there was the news that Khloe may not be a real Kardashian. With the continuing saga coming apart at the seams, Kim and the rest of the Kardashian clan are having a problem keeping up their failing reputation. Read More »

Madonna: The Queen of Pop – the sole survivor of the mostly all-too decadent music video onslaught that was the 80’s – is preparing for a full-on explosion in 2012. She’ll be taking over the duties of entertaining the biggest stage on the planet…this year’s NFL half-time show will be an unparalleled extravaganza as materialized by the Material Girl. It may not go over all that well with the hyper-testosterone football fan, but for the rest of us…well it’s a holiday! Read More »
