Ditch the sippy cups, you lame-o parents. It’s time for an upgrade. Juice boxes are SO pedestrian … so why not offer up your toddler a “Babyccino” — mini cappuccinos or frothy cups of steamed milk and foam?
Urban, trendy mommies and daddies in Brooklyn are apparently ordering the drink for their youngsters, some children as young as 2-years old.
To those of you reading this … sorry if your head just exploded.
The Babyccino originated in Australia about 10 years ago, but has now found its way to the east
coast – specifically Brooklyn, where many local cafés offer the off-menu beverage. The drink goes for about $2 and is described as a “macchiato-like beverage featuring a shot of decaf espresso topped with steamed milk and froth”. Oh – don’t forget the cinnamon.
Well, at least its decaf. You can now readjust your head.
The original Australian milk-only babyccinos quickly became the bane of many a barista’s existence, according to Aussie coffee expert Paul Caligiore.
“They interrupt workflow, create milk wastage and can be served at a dangerous temperature to a vulnerable consumer,” said Caligiore. “Babyccinos have become so popular in Australia it would be difficult to find a cafe that doesn’t have them on their menu.” (And even though he loathes them with every fiber of his being – he’s poised to begin selling the world’s first instant babyccino.)
This is the perfect thing for caffeine-loving parents. You get to drag your kid to the coffee shop while you get your java fix.
It’s brilliant. Just Sayin’.

OK…umm WOW?? I work in a Head Start facility with low income families who are often in crisis…does this seem a bit…I DON’T KNOW….nutso? Is it that our children, who are obese by the way, need frothy milk, with sugary toppings….or is it the fact that parents can’t say NO that bothers me more. Call me old fashioned, but when did a box of super expensive organic apple juice become uncool?
You are preaching to the choir, woman! Thanks for your input. Appreciate it! (MMMMmmmm … organic apple juice!)
